AI in FAB Subtitler

AI (artificial Intelligence) functionality is available in FAB Subtitler Version 14 and can be used for:

• easy execution of complex tasks by providing instructions in human language
• to find spelling an grammatical errors in subtitles
• to find subtitles using complex search criteria
• to provide paraphrasing suggestions for subtitle texts
• other tasks not mentioned here, but possibilities are endless and only limited by the creativity of the user

AI functionality is available in FAB Subtitler STD/PRO/LIVE/MPEG.

AI functionality is currently not available in FAB Subtitler BCAST/XCD.

How it works

FAB Subtitler can use different AI services and AI models. Most important AI services currently supported are:

• Google Gemini
• OpenAI ChatGPT
• Ollama
• Anthropic

FAB Subtitler can use one or multiple AI services. The reason is that one AI service may provide good results for one task and another AI service may provide better results for a different task.

To use a certain AI model of one of the AI services you will need to:

• create an account with the AI service
• subscribe to a plan which will allow using the API of the AI service
• generate an “API Key” and use the API key in FAB Subtitler options when configuring the usage of the AI service

Pricing

The AI functionality is included in all FAB Subtitler STD/PRO/LIVE/MPEG installations and does not cost extra.

However most AI Services (except llama which can be installed locally on very powerful hardware) require payment for usage.

Pricing for using different AI Services and AI Models may vary. However pricing may be very attractive, such as:

• ChatGPT “gpt-4.1-mini” model pricing in 2025: 0,40 US$ per million input tokens and 1,60 US$ per million output tokens

As an approximation 4 characters of English text count as one token. A check of a subtitle file with 500 subtitles would have an approximate cost of 0,004$.

Most AI services allow setting the spending limit and by setting the limit to 10 US$ per month many hundreds of subtitle AI queries can be run on ChatGPT cloud AI service.

Note that it is very important to choose the correct AI Service and AI Model which will provide best possible results for your task. More expensive models provide better results. Pricing may vary between different AI Services and AI Models but it remains quite moderate overall.
