FAB Subtitler Server supports many additional functions. This page describes the function “Map network drive”.
In short: the function connects the FAB Subtitler Server service to a network share, using the user name and password that you configure, and keeps it connected. Use it when the share (for example a watchfolder or the folder of another additional function) is not accessible with the account under which the service runs. It is available also in the free version of FAB Subtitler Server.
Configuration
- Open FAB Subtitler Server Configuration and click on the page “Additional Functions”.
- Add the function “Map network drive” and fill in the fields below.
- Add one entry for every network share that has to be connected.
The fields of an entry are:
- Field: Enabled
Meaning:Yto map the share (the default for a new entry),Nto ignore this entry. - Field: Description
Meaning: Free text which identifies the entry in the list of additional functions. - Field: NetworkFolder
Meaning: The share to connect, in the form\\server\share. - Field: Username
Meaning: User name for the share, for examplemyusernameorDOMAIN\myusername. Leave empty to use the account of the service. - Field: Password
Meaning: Password of the user. Leave empty if the share does not need one.
Example configuration
The following is an example of the configuration which can be used to map the network drive \server\share with user “myusername” and password “mypassword”.
Enabled=Y
Description=Subtitle share
NetworkFolder=\\server\share
Username=myusername
Password=mypassword
Notes
- Network drives will be mapped before any other additional function is started
- The share is connected without a drive letter. Always use the full network path, for example
\\server\share\folder, when you refer to it in the configuration of the server. - If any network drive cannot be mapped, then an automatic retry will occur every minute. The connection is also checked and restored every minute, if it was lost in the meantime.
- The password is stored encrypted in the configuration. It is shown as plain text only while you edit the entry.
- Every entry writes its own log file to the folder
c:\ProgramData\FAB\FAB Subtitler Server\Log. The name of the file starts withAddFunc_followed by the number of the entry (for exampleAddFunc_00012). When the drive is mapped for the first time after the service started, the log contains the lineInitializing network drive mapping ...and, when it is mapped,Network drive mapping initialized .... The log contains every failed attempt to map the drive, with the Windows error code and message, for example because of a wrong password or because the server cannot be reached. A successful connection is logged once, when the drive was not connected before. - The additional functions “Audio description player” and “Subtitle logging server” can map a network folder themselves, with their setting
MapNetFolder (
\\server\share,username,password), in the same way as this function. Use this function if several entries use the same share. - The connection is made for the service. A share which is mapped by the service is not visible for the user who is logged on to the computer, so use the account of that user if you need to access the share also from the desktop.
